There are new advances occurring in dental technology every day. Here at Chisholm Trail Smile Center, we stay up-to-date on the latest developments so we can provide you with the highest standard of modern dental care possible. Read on to learn about some of the advanced technologies we regularly use in our Duncan, OK dental office:

CEREC ProScan

The CEREC ProScan is used in our office for digital impressions. This camera allows us to capture high-quality, full-color images, and we even see a preview of the scan we’re about to make. Any models are sent to the lab nearly instantly and queued up in the production line, for a quick and efficient process.

Cone Beam Scanner

When regular X-rays do not provide us with enough information, we may opt to scan your mouth with a dental cone beam. In a single scan, our cone beam scanner can create 3D images of your bone, teeth, tissue, and nerves. It is used less often than facial x-rays only because it exposes you to a higher level of radiation. However, the cone beam scanner is a useful device helpful in many instances, such as when we need to:

  • Evaluate joint health.
  • Plan for surgery or orthodontics.
  • Detect the source of pain.
  • Learn where to accurately place dental implants.
  • Examining the sinuses and nasal cavity.
  • And much more.

The procedure is simple and also requires little to no preparation. The device rotates around your head to complete a complete 360-degree image, and is done in no time at all.

Digital X-Rays

Safer and more efficient than film x-rays, digital x-rays provide the precision necessary to examine areas that are difficult or impossible to see with the naked human eye. At Chisholm Trail Smile Center, Dr. Bridges and his team utilize digital x-rays to examine the contact areas between your teeth, your tooth roots, and more. They can also help us identify infection and create a treatment plan for some dental ailments.

How often do you need digital x-rays? It depends on your oral health situation. You may need to have an oral x-ray immediately after an injury or toothache, but healthy adults don’t need updated x-rays very often. Talk with your dentist to determine how long is appropriate for you to go in-between x-rays.

Microscope

A dental microscope proves to be a very useful tool in the field of dental medicine. With the help of a microscope, we are often able to perform minimally invasive operations more safely and quickly. Besides its surgical uses, a dental microscope is incredibly useful in identifying and treating conditions of the teeth and gums, especially in the field of endodontics. A microscope can magnify an image up to 25 times of what can be seen with the naked eye, meaning we are better able to assist each patient’s individual case.
